Welcome to my website! My name is Sandra Dailey and I am a teacher in the CHOICES DL program in Port Alberni. I have been an educator for over 2 decades, and have spent half of this time as a Distributive Learning Teacher. I will be using this site to document my progress through Vancouver Island University's (VIU), Online Learning Teaching Diploma (OLTD) program. Thank you for joining me on my learning journey.
Starting With a Metaphor - The photo on the right brings back a fond memory of my younger son, Ben. You have to have a bit of history to understand why this image holds such charm for me. Ben was born into a family of swimmers, but he was also born with an intense fear of the water, which none of us could understand. He had reluctantly learned to swim, but he panicked with the thought of going out on his own, only feeling secure in a life jacket or in the arms of someone he trusted. Ben has always done things in his own time, and one sunny, summer day, just after he turned five, he decided he was ready to conquer his fear. This picture captured his leap of faith. What I find delightful is that he didn't step out tentatively. With the power of bright-red goggles to strengthen his resolve, he jumped with open arms, with enthusiasm, with confidence, and with the expectation that he would succeed. That is how I would like to begin my learning journey, with eagerness and with hope, ready to embark on this new adventure. As for the quote, I am a great fan of Dr. Seuss and you will find snippets of Seuss wisdom sprinkled throughout these pages.
